The Moot Court Association of Government Law College in association with the D.M. Harish foundation is pleased to announce the 15th D.M. Harish Memorial- Government Law College International Moot Court Competition, scheduled to be held from 6th-9th February, 2014.


The Moot instituted in the memory of late Mr. D.M. Harish, is India's oldest and most renowned international moot court competition. DMH as it is popularly called,witnesses diverse participation from the creme of Indian law Universities as well as from law schools/universities across the globe.


The 4 day mooting extravaganza is renowned for the quality of judges which include professors, professionals, practicing lawyers and senior counsels of the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court of India with the final round being presided by an impressive bench of 5 sitting judges of the Bombay High Court.


Eligibility: Students enrolled in a full-time or a part-time law program at the time of the competition are eligible to compete in the competition. Each college/law school or University may send one team ONLY.

9th NANI PALKHIVALA MEMORIAL RESEARCH PAPER COMPETITION, 2013

The All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Bar Association in association with the Government Law College, Mumbai is pleased to announce the 9th Nani Palkhivala Memorial Research Paper Competition, 2013.

The topic for this year’s Research Paper is:

Advance Pricing Agreement (S. 92CC & 92CD)”

The students may have to discuss the following issues:-
1.   Analyse the Indian provisions (S. 92CC and 92CD  and Rules);
2.   Comparing with other countries;
3.   What are the merits and demerits;
4.   Whether the provisions will achieve the desired objects;
5.   Suggestions and any other issues which the author may discuss and express his view.

Each article can be authored by a maximum of two authors. The entries will be judged by a panel of eminent judges. The three best articles will be awarded cash prizes, along with a certificate of merit and a medal. The winning research paper will be published in the AIFTP Journal, on the ITAT website (www.itatonline.org) and in other leading tax magazines.

D.M. Harish Memorial Government Law College International Moot Court Competition, 2013



Government Law College has been hosting India’s First Ever International Moot Court Competition, in association with the D. M. Harish Foundation for over a decade now. In the year 2000, the Moot Court Association in collaboration with the D. M. Harish Foundation ordained the D. M. Harish Memorial Moot Court Competition, at a national level. The year 2004 saw Government Law College enter its 150th grand year and the MCA its 50th year, the way forward to expand the competition’s horizons was devised by developing it into India’s first international moot, which meant replicating the national success of the moot at the International Level. The MCA works round the year to make the D. M. Harish Memorial Government Law College International Moot Court Competition or DMH, as we fondly refer to it in GLC, a reality.

The case study of the competition deals primarily with complex contemporary issues relating to Public International Law before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).The 2013 Compromis mainly deals with the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements. The problem revolves around privacy laws and the role of tax reforms in a global economy.

Participating Universities

The participation of Law Institutes from the United Kingdom, United States of America, Sri Lanka, Nepal Bangladesh, Mauritius, Spain, Greece, Russia, Malaysia, Ireland, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Singapore, Jamaica, Australia & Pakistan hold witness to the truly global flavour of DMH. This year we additionally look forward to participation from prestigious Universities such as the New York University from USA, Bond University & the University of Melbourne from Australia, Moscow State Law Academy from Russia, University of Sussex and Southampton University from UK, Aristotle University from Greece amongst other international teams, apart from the cream of Indian law universities that will attend this competition.

The Panel Discussion

One of the highlights of DMH is the Panel Discussion, which is an integral part of the competition schedule. The distinguished panelists such as Ms. Smriti Irani, Mr. Arun Jaitley, and Ms. Teesta Setalvad have all graced the discussion in the past. . This year’s panelists include Mr .Mahesh Jethmalani, and Ms Shaina NC. The Panel Discussion, with the Inaugural Ceremony, is held at the opulent Sahyadri State Guest House at Malabar Hill.  The topic for this year’s discussion is Thought control and reasonable restraints- The dividing line on social media “

Judges

Every year, Judges of the Bombay High Court, eminent advocates & lawyers, senior professors of law, partners and associates from elite law firms, form the highly illustrious pool of jurists for the preliminary, octo, quarter & semi-final rounds of the competition.

The teams most determined to endeavor finally embrace the Final Rounds of Argument, held at the magnificent Mumbai University Convocation Hall. The Finalist teams get once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to argue before a formidable bench of five sitting Judges of the Bombay High Court.  Justice F. I. Rebello, Chief Justice Allahabad High Court, Justice B. N. Srikrishna, Former Judge Supreme Court and Justice A. P. Shah, Former Chief Justice Delhi High Court have all graced us with their august presence in the past.

DMH truly epitomizes commitment, objectivity, hospitality and recognition of merit par excellence. 19th M. C. Chagla Memorial Government Law College National Moot Court Competition, 2013





The Government Law College, Mumbai in association with the Chief Justice M. C. Chagla Memorial Trust is pleased to announce the 19th M. C. Chagla Memorial Government Law College National Moot Court Competition scheduled to be held on 12th & 13th January, 2013.

The Moot Court Association of Government Law College has been hosting the M. C. Chagla Memorial Moot Court Competition for several years. The Competition, instituted in memory of Late Mr. M. C. Chagla, began initially as a city-level moot court competition, which was later expanded to a state-level competition. Due to the overwhelming response that we have been receiving, the Competition, since its last edition, has been raised to a national platform. This year, the Competition and will witness 16 of the Best Law Schools in the country compete to win the coveted trophy.

The Moot Court Competition is based purely on Constitutional Law and will require teams to argue on 2 sets of problems across the Preliminary, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final Round of Arguments. The rounds of the competition will judged by eminent professors and practicing lawyers of the Bombay High Court with the Final Rounds being judged by sitting judges of the Bombay High Court.

The Moot Court Association of Government Law College in association with the D. M. Harish Foundation is pleased to announce the 14th D. M. Harish Memorial – Government Law College International Moot Court Competition scheduled to be held from 7th – 10th February, 2013. 

The Moot, instituted in the memory of late Mr. D. M. Harish, is India’s oldest and most renowned international moot court competition. DMH as it is popularly called, witnesses diverse participation from the crème of Indian Law Universities as well as from law schools/Universities across the globe. The 4-day mooting extravaganza is renowned for the quality of judges which include professors, professionals, practicing lawyers and senior counsels of the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court of India with the Final Round of Arguments being presided by an impressive bench of 5 sitting judges of the Bombay High Court. 

The 2012 edition of the Competition saw 30 teams including 15 international teams, the likes of which include New York University & Valparaiso University from USA, Bond University from Australia, and University of Sussex and University of Southampton from the United Kingdom amongst others.
The case-study of the competition is primarily based on Public International Law intertwined with elements of private international law to keep pace with the changing global scenario.

9th Nani Palkhivala Memorial National Tax Moot Court Competition, 2012


The All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Bar Association in association with the Government Law College, Mumbai is pleased to announce the 9th Nani Palkhivala Memorial National Tax Moot Court Competition, 2012 scheduled to be held from 11th - 13th October, 2012.

The competition, currently in its 9th year is instituted in the memory of Late Mr. Nani Palkhivala who was not only a legend in the field of Income Tax and Constitutional Law but was also a former student and Professor at the Government Law College, Mumbai. Being India's first moot court competition to be based exclusively on the subject of taxation, what sets this competition apart is that it is held at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal courtrooms itself and is judged by the Hon’ble Members and professionals of the ITAT which gives the students an enriching learning experience.

This is an invite-based competition and invitation for the competition is extended to select colleges/universities subject to a maximum participation of 26 teams on a first- come-first-serve basis. Colleges are hereby informed that in the event of any vacancy, invitation for the competition shall be extended to colleges/universities that put in an official request for participation by emailing the same to mca@glcmumbai.com.
